Requirements to be a writer

1. Be a reader. The first requirement to be a writer is to be a reader. If you enjoy reading then your audience will enjoy your writing.

2. Write what you read. If you prefer romance or westerns or sci-fi or mysteries then write that kind of book, because then you will have fun writing your story. If you read self-help books then start there.

3. Write what you know. Why spend thousands of hours researching a subject where you have no experience? Glean from your life experience and harvest your memories.

4. Study your craft. If you want to perform good work then you must do your homework. Observe the techniques of great writers and read books on how to construct a grand argument story. You know people who brag about their artistic or musical skills but if they have never taken lessons then they will always be an amateur. Be a professional. Study the craft of writing.

Write Your Book Program:

1. Enroll as a client of Dr. Plumb. The first session covers 3 hours and costs $225. Bring some of your writing or your ideas to that first meeting.

2. Take notes and do your homework. You will give yourself writing assignments.

3. Come back to report progress and receive new instruction. One-hour sessions cost $75. Take them weekly or monthly or as needed.

4. Finish your book. Dr. Plumb is here to motivate you, help you overcome writer's block, and keep moving you forward. He will motivate you to finish your book.

Publish Your Book

1. Print your first draft. Give it to friends and professionals to critique. Listen to criticism. Make corrections.

2. Print your second draft. Comb it carefully for typos and logical errors. Seek criticism from a professional. Make corrections.

3. Prepare the manuscript for publication. A literary agent wants your book presented as a double-spaced manuscript on loose, single-sided sheets. If you decide to self-publish (which is recommended for new authors) then prepare print-ready computer files.

4. Submit your proposal to literary agents or send your electronic files to the printer. You may use Professor Plumb Publishing if you wish.
